Why I Became a Travel Agent: From Healthcare to Horizons

In September of 2021, just as the world was beginning to breathe again after the chaos of COVID, I made a decision that changed the course of my life: I became a travel agent.

At the time, I was still working full-time in healthcare—a field that had seen more than its share of stress and sacrifice. Like so many others, I was burnt out. But more than that, I wanted to create a way for my fellow healthcare workers to escape, to recharge, and to rediscover joy. Travel became that escape, not just for me, but for others like me who needed a reminder that the world was still full of beauty, adventure, and possibility.

What started as a small passion project quickly blossomed into a full-fledged business. I found myself immersed in planning dream vacations, discovering hidden gems, and connecting with clients who needed a break from their everyday grind. It was rewarding in a way I hadn’t expected.

Why I Love Cruising

One of my personal favorite ways to travel is cruising. Here’s why cruising holds such a special place in my heart:

  • You get to experience multiple countries in one trip – Unpack once, and wake up in a new destination each day.
  • Convenience and comfort – Your cabin becomes your home base, with everything you need in one place.
  • Safety – Cruise ships offer a secure environment for travelers of all ages.
  • That ocean air – There’s something healing about being at sea, feeling the breeze, and watching the horizon stretch on forever.
  • A global community – Cruises bring people together from all over the world. The connections and friendships formed onboard are priceless.

Other Paths to Becoming a Travel Agent

Everyone’s journey to becoming a travel agent is different. Some common paths include:

  • Retirees looking to stay active and earn income while traveling.
  • Parents who want to create flexible careers while raising kids.
  • People who’ve always been the "go-to" trip planner for friends and family.
  • Adventurous souls who want to turn their love for travel into a business.
  • Entrepreneurs seeking a side hustle with low startup costs and high personal rewards.

No matter the reason, the common thread is a love of travel and a desire to help others experience it.

Looking Ahead

My ultimate goal? To leave the healthcare field entirely within the next five years and transition into traveling full time. It’s not just a dream—it’s a plan in motion.

Travel has given me purpose, freedom, and a way to connect with people all over the world. Now, I help others do the same—and there’s nothing more fulfilling than that.

If you’re ready to explore the world, whether it’s your first trip or your fiftieth, I’m here to help you make it unforgettable.
